ELM Construction LLC is a design-build remodeling company serving homeowners in Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Hoover, and the greater Birmingham area. We are looking for an experienced Senior Designer who can bring creativity, organization, strong client communication, and a high level of design expertise to the team.
The Senior Interior Designer will work closely with clients to understand their vision, develop creative design solutions, guide selections, prepare design concepts, and support projects through the design-build process. This person should have a strong eye for design, experience with residential interiors or remodeling, and the ability to balance creativity with budgets, timelines, and practical project constraints. This role may also be a strong fit for someone with leadership potential who can help support and develop the design department over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with clients at project locations to understand their goals, style, budget, and project needs
- Gather measurements, photos, and information needed to create as-built drawings
- Develop design concepts based on client tastes, project scope, and budget
- Design kitchens, bathrooms, and other residential spaces using Chief Architect or similar software
- Present design concepts and revisions to clients
- Help clients with selections, finishes, materials, and design decisions
- Book and attend client appointments in showrooms, homes, and the office
- Provide sketches and design details to support field installation
- Respond to client emails, texts, and calls in a timely and professional manner
- Follow up with trade partners and vendors on product quotes
- Order and track design products
- Review and approve design-related invoices
- Manage client budgets, communicate overages or underages, and help prepare change orders when needed
- Visit jobsites to verify design accuracy and materials
- Participate in team meetings, trade shows, client events, and networking opportunities as needed
Qualifications
- 10+ years of design experience preferred
- Residential construction, remodeling, or design-build experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of interior design principles
- Experience designing kitchens, bathrooms, and residential living spaces
- Experience with Chief Architect preferred
- Experience with Chief Architect is a strong plus; experience with similar design software such as 2020, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or related platforms is also a plus.
- Strong communication and client service skills
- Organized, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and professional
- Ability to balance design creativity with budgets, timelines, and construction realities
- Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a collaborative mindset
- Ability to work in the office; this is not a remote position
- Degree in interior design or a related field is highly preferred; strong professional design experience may be considered in place of a degree.
Pay and Benefits
- Full-Time. W-2 Employment
- Pay: $80,000-$90,000 per year, depending on experience
